Amersfoort is the European City of The 2023 Year by The Academy of Urbanism

Amersfoort has been honored with the prestigious title of European City of The Year by The Academy of Urbanism!  The city was commended for its exceptional quality of life, progressive planning, and innovative approach, all while preserving its rich heritage and unique character.

The jury highlighted Amersfoort's commitment to citizen well-being, from initiatives to reduce car usage to ensuring a diverse range of high-quality affordable homes. Cheers to a city that prioritizes happiness! 

Competing against Estepona in Spain and Exeter in England, Amersfoort showcased excellence in urban development, social cohesion, sustainability, and local governance. During their September visit, the jury explored the historic city center, Kattenbroek, Wagenwerkplaats, and Vathorst by bicycle. Thank you for recognizing Amersfoort's greatness! 

Amersfoort – Is it comfortable to live there?

Amersfoort is situated in the heart of the Netherlands. Just a 13-minute train ride to Utrecht and 34 minutes to Amsterdam, it offers convenient connectivity.
